The Nature Conservancy of Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of ecologically significant areas and places of special educational interest (NCC Stewardship Manual, 2002). Habitat loss is the greatest threat to Canada’s native plants and animals; therefore, the loss or degradation of significant habitat is the organization’s primary focus (Ibid). It is Canada’s only conservation-oriented non-profit organization dedicated to preserving ecologically significant areas through outright purchase from donations and conservation easements (Ibid). The NCC focuses on science-based conservation to achieve its goals (Ibid).
